Channeling Stress into Positive Action: A Path Forward

After the turbulence of the 2024 election, I found myself on the verge of frustration and dread. However, because of my training, instead of letting the weight of uncertainty consume me, I sought an outlet for my energy. I dove into researching places to relocate—exploring cities, cultures, and lifestyles that could offer a fresh perspective. The process gave me a sense of control and excitement, a glimmer of hope amid the chaos.

As Maya Angelou once said, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

This endeavor turned into more than a search for a new home; it became a mental escape. Even if I don’t end up relocating, I now have a plan to visit these destinations, experiencing them firsthand and broadening my horizons. This simple act of envisioning a brighter future helped me see light at the end of the tunnel. It reminded me that change—even imagined change—can be a powerful antidote to stress.

No matter the source of your stress, finding a positive way to channel your energy can make all the difference. Whether it's through travel planning, picking up a new hobby, or helping others, action replaces stagnation. Instead of dwelling in anger, frustration, or hopelessness, choose to create something meaningful for yourself. That choice is a step toward healing and hope.

Upcoming trip to Costa Rica:

Our trip was already planned for January 2025 but now the focus has a new mission. Would we relocate there? It's a place recommended by International Living... We start with a 7-day tour but are staying a few extra days to experience it more intimately... Took me several hours of on-line research (Hotels.com, Expedia.com, and finally AirBnB.com) but the hours were worth it since I found this place!

View of the Arenal Volcano from our room in Costa Rica

Our room with that view. The indoor jacuzzi tub an added bonus!
