"Adventure is Out There": Drawing Inspiration from "UP"

I was trying to pinpoint the source for "Serenity it Out There". This morning I remembered one of my favorite animated films, Pixar's Up. In it, the phrase "Adventure is out there" resonates deeply, capturing the essence of exploring the unknown and the human spirit of curiosity. But it also holds a profound lesson: adventure begins with a dream, yet dreams only come to life through action.

The Message Behind "Adventure is Out There"

If you haven't seen the movie, I HIGHLY recommend it. My take-aways are:

  1. If the world changes around you, you are NOT stuck
  2. Start by asking "What if?" Allow yourself to dream big (or stay home)
  3. You may eventually come to the conclusion "Why NOT?" Making a bold decision in the first step
"You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight." ~ Jim Rohn
  4. Take some action. Mine has included research, planning, and integration into my business
  5. Go boldly. This advice is not to encourage hasty decisions. Growth happens when you are out of your comfort zone. Hence you need to have the courage inferred in the "Serenity Prayer".

"What If?": The First Step

Dreaming is where every adventure begins. Without dreams, we lack direction, purpose, and the imagination to envision something better. For Carl and Ellie, their scrapbook labeled "Adventure Book" served as a physical manifestation of their dreams, a space to plan and hope for the future. Similarly, our dreams often start as ideas, written notes, or a dream board.

"Why NOT?": The Catalyst

In our lives, taking action might not look as fantastical as flying a house across continents, but it can be just as meaningful. Whether it’s booking a ticket to a new destination, enrolling in a class, or stepping outside of your comfort zone, action breathes life into your dreams. Up illustrates that even the smallest steps—starting a plan, sharing your aspirations, or exploring something unfamiliar—can lead to incredible adventures.

"Let's GO!": The Step UP!

Adventures enrich our lives, teaching us resilience, adaptability, and the value of human connection. In Up, Carl discovers that his greatest adventure wasn’t reaching Paradise Falls—it was the journey itself, shaped by the relationships he formed along the way.

When we embrace the mindset that "Adventure is out there," we open ourselves to growth and joy. Adventures help us see the world from new perspectives and deepen our understanding of ourselves. They remind us that we’re never too old or too late to begin.

So Bill and I are at this point: researching, planning, and exploring. It has added positive energy into our lives when the world around us has seemed to grown frustrating and confusing. We are changing what we can change.
